SUMMARY
The use of the Da Vinci robotic system for liver resections could enlarge indications for a minimally invasive approach to an increasing number of patients with liver metastases. Complex liver resections, even in posterior and superior segments, may be facilitated by the use of the Robot. The forthcoming integration of robotic systems with medical imaging has promising future applications in liver surgery. Computer-aided surgery will refine therapeutic planning and navigation systems will give greater accuracy in determining resection margins and needle-probe insertion for laparoscopic-Radiofrequency ablation.
