Obesity is an important public health issue in western countries and its incidence is continuously growing. Gastric bypass is considered the gold standard for treatment of morbid obesity. For some years now the use of robotic system is extended to advanced bariatric surgery in order to demonstrate its advantages compared with laparoscopic procedure without increasing complications. Recognized advantages of robotic assistance are three-dimensional view, magnification of the images, improved ergonomic tools, presence of seven degrees of freedom in motion, absence of tremor and perfect translation of the surgeon?s hand movements into movements of surgical instruments. Also the surgeon placed at remote console has improved comfort and enhanced resistance. This video reports the technique of the Double Loop Gastric Bypass performed at our Institute with the use of the ?Da Vinci? Robotic Surgical System.
