Chicago 2009 Video – Does robotic assistance increase the percentage of spleen preservation in minimally invasive distal pancreatectomy ?

F.M. Bianco, PC Giulianotti

SUMMARY
Minimally Invasive approach to distal pancreatectomy is a well accepted option, The preservation of the spleen, when a clinical indication is present, still remains a challenging option in standard laparoscopy. The authors report the results of their experience with robotic assisted laparoscopic spleen preserving distal pancreatectomies. The assistance of the robot seems to facilitate the splenic vessels dissection and therefore to increase the percentage of spleen preservation.
