Dr Fernandes graduated with honours at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’ in 2001.
He completed his basic surgical training working as a Senior House Officer in Scotland and subsequently in London, gaining a broad base training including cardiothoracic surgery at the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Before entering higher surgical training in the UK, Dr Fernandes completed a PhD project at Imperial College London, Hammersmith Hospital Campus, defending a thesis titled ‘Transplantation tolerance induction via modification of allograft specific T regulatory cells’.
He re-joined higher surgical training within the London Deanery School of Surgery and spent 1 year in the United States working as a clinical fellow in Minimally Invasive and robotic surgery at the University of Illinois Hospitals, in Chicago.
He currently works as a Senior Registrar in surgical oncology at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London.
