Robotic Hepatic Resection of the III Segment
March 26, 2012
Pier C. Giulianotti (Chicago – USA)
SUMMARY: The procedure starts with an intraoperative ultrasonographic study of the liver which confirms the presence of a lesion of 5 cm in diameter in the third segment of the liver. The study reveals also the presence of two lesions: about 1 and 1,5 cm in diameter, in the segment 6 of the liver and suspected for hemangiomas.
The robot is installed in the operative field. A wedge resection of the third hepatic segment is performed by the ultrasound dissector. For hemostasis a bipolar forceps is also used.
The specimen is extracted by the enlargment of the umbilical trocar access.
